The TRANSEARCH Business Lunch is a top-class, established networking platform for top executives in an exclusive setting.
"We were delighted to have the president of the German Economic Council, Astrid Hamker, as a speaker," said Ulrich F. Ackermann and Dr. Carlo Mackrodt, managing partners at TRANSEARCH International. In her passionate and socio-politically fascinating lecture "Economic Policy Challenges in this Legislative Period," Ms. Hamker discussed the task of the Economic Council – in dialogue and in cooperation with the German government, emphasizing the Council’s non-partisan, business-oriented approach.
"Europe is at a turning point," she said as she opened her presentation. "Those who influence policy are facing new challenges – and thus new responsibilities – not only in the realms of security and defense, but also energy and economics." As Europeans, Ms. Hamker continued, it is our duty to learn again to stand up for our values, to be ready to defend against military threats, and to further our interests in the world.
Businesses and entrepreneurs in particular are now being called upon to play an active political role – in the Economic Council and similar business-related political organizations, for example – so that in Germany and in the EU at large, we can make the right decisions and forge ahead into a successful future, hopefully with fewer political conflicts.
Despite the current challenges and the devastating humanitarian catastrophe of the war in Ukraine, Ms. Hamker concluded her presentation with an appeal: "We can do it! The German economy has proven time and again that it is highly resilient in crisis situations," encouraging the guests, as top decision-makers, to get more involved politically – not to simply leave the shaping of the future to politicians and our often too lumbering bureaucracy.
The inspiring event was rounded off by Markus Bischoff's exquisite cuisine and the first asparagus of the season at the DEKRA Bischoff Club Restaurant in Stuttgart-Vaihingen.
